Mary M. Miner

(February 4, 1914 - January 15, 2008)

Mary M. Miner, 93, of Fremont, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont.

Mary was born on Feb. 4, 1914 in Fremont to Amon and Jane (Rookledge) McDonald, and later graduated from Fremont High School in 1932. She met and married Orrin “Bode” Miner on July 19, 1939 in Holly, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1989. Mary had been a bookkeeper at the Fremont Public Schools until her retirement in 1979 and was an active member of the Fremont United Methodist Church.

She was a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star; member of the vision impaired group in Fremont; Michigan Education Association; an active member of AARP; enjoyed knitting hats for NCCS; enjoyed aerobics through the Fremont Community Education from her retirement at age 65 until age 91 and was an active volunteer with many organizations in Newaygo County. Mary was known for her love of roses and enjoyed raising roses at her home. Mary also was a member of The Sewing Club, which was started in 1946 by a group of World War II military wives and continues today.

She is survived by her children, Tom (Carlin) Miner of Layton, Utah, James (Lisa) Miner of Amherst, New Hampshire, Sharon Pickering of Fremont, and Kathy (George) Powell of Fremont; eight grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Meyer; and brothers, Ronald, Alden, and Bruce McDonald.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 31 at 11 a.m. at the Fremont United Methodist Church, with interment in the Fremont United Methodist Church Memorial Garden following cremation.
