Jay H. Charles

Jay H. Charles, 95, of Muskegon, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the Brookhaven Nursing Home in Muskegon.
Jay was born on March 27, 1913 in Fremont to Lawrence and Rosa (Dornbush) Charles, and graduated from Fremont High School. He met and later married Martha Marie Crawford on Dec. 22, 1936 in Muskegon, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 1999. Jay had been a machinist and inspector at the Teledyne Continental Motors Company in Muskegon for many years, until his retirement in 1973. Jay loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, had been a coin collector, enjoyed antiques and refin-ishing furniture, enjoyed collecting rocks and attending auctions.
Jay is survived by his children, Susan Charles of Muskegon, Barbara LaRue of Muskegon, Beverly (Dennis) David of Hesperia, Joyce (Daniel) Light of Muskegon, and Orville Charles of Muskegon; 11 grandchildren; 21 greatgrandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Harold Charles of Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; his son, Nicholas Charles in 1968 while serving in the armed forces during the Vietnam Conflict; and by 10 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held on Saturday at the Crandell Funeral Home - Fremont Chapel, with Pastor John Brown of the First Baptist Church of Muskegon presiding, with interment in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.
