Walter F. Thompson

(June 1, 1925 - January 17, 2008)

Walter F. Thompson, 82, of Hesperia, passed away on Thursday evening, Jan. 17, 2008 at home.

He was born Walter Floyd Thompson, the son of Ralph and Mildred (Gleason) Thompson on June 1, 1925 in Grand Rapids. He was a graduate of Fremont High School, and attended MSU one year studying Agriculture. On Feb. 28, 1946 he joined Rosalie A. Holcomb in marriage in Hesperia. He retired from Dresser Crane in 1990. Rosalie passed away on Feb. 25, 2000. He farmed in the area and enjoyed hunting, gardening and traveling.

He is survived by two sons, Richard Thompson of Hesperia and Harry (Onalee McMiller) of Walkerville; four daughters, Bonnie (Jerry) Smith of Hesperia, Nancy (Arnoldo) Garza of Texas, LuAnn Thompson and Cindy (Mike) Gould of Hesperia; three sisters, Barb Jacobsen of Twin Lake, Ann Green of White Cloud, and Ruth Melvin of Stanwood; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; some special nephews, Rudy (Emma) Holcomb of Texas, Randy (Melody) Holcomb of Grand Haven, and David (Julie) Dye of Copemish, along with several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Thompson; and two grandchildren, Holly Gould and John Gould.

The funeral service was held on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at the Raymond Funeral Home in Hesperia, with Pastor Dave Dickinson officiating. Interment was made in Volney Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice. Arrangements by Raymond Funeral Home, Inc. in Hesperia.
