Joan (VanGoor) Meyers

(February 21, 1929 - January 2, 2009)

Joan Meyers, 79, of Cadillac when to be with her Lord on Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 at her home.

She was born in Fremont on Feb. 21, 1929 to Henry and Anna (Lambers) VanGoor. She graduated from Fremont High School. On Aug. 21, 1952, she married Wesley H. Meyers in Fremont, and they moved to Cadillac in 1968.

Mrs. Meyers had been a medical secretary for the Medical Arts Group in Cadillac. After retiring from Medical Arts, she volunteered at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac and had knitted baby caps for newborn infants. She also knitted mittens and scarves for needy children, and was accomplished at cross stitch. She was an avid major sports watcher and loved flowers of all kinds.

Mrs. Meyers was a member of the Cadillac Christian Reformed Church, where she helped start the “Girls Club”. She was a loving, giving and compassionate wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by her husband, Wesley H. Meyers of Cadillac; a son, Jeff (Tammy) Meyers of Saranac; a granddaughter, Tara Zamarron of Saranac; a grandson, Joel Meyers (fiancé Hailie Gellis) of Portland, Oregon; a brother, Stan (Kathy) VanGoor of Fremont; a sister, Norma (Ed) Breuker of Lansing; a sister-in-law, Mary Meyers of Hastings; numerous nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Steven G. Meyers; and a sister, Ruth VanGoor.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at the Cadillac Christian Reformed Church, with Rev. Ron Klimp officiating. Burial was held at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac. For a more lasting memorial, you are asked to consider contributions to the Cadillac Christian Reformed Church Building Fund or to Hospice of Michigan.
