Ruth Irene Sherman, 86, of Fremont, and formerly of Muskegon, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009 at Transitional Health Services in Fremont.
Ruth was born on Nov. 29, 1922 in Holton to Arthur A. and Millie (McClouth) Gale and later graduated from Fremont High School. Ruth met and later married Ovid Sherman on June 7, 1941 in Indiana. Ovid preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1993. Ruth had been a cook at Oakridge High School in Muskegon for over 20 years, and then started work at Gerber Products Company in the cafeteria until her retirement. Ruth was a member of the Holton United Methodist Church and also the Birthday Club of Holton. She had enjoyed bowling, playing cards, playing Bunko, knitting and crocheting, traveling with her husband and had been a member of the Holton United Methodist Church Women’s Circle.
She is survived by her children, Jerry (Pat) Sherman of Fremont, Jim (Wanda) Sherman of Fremont, and Margie (Ken) Sipe of Muskegon; 12 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Bill Sherman on June 12, 1996; and by her husband, Ovid on Nov. 4, 1993.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 29 at the Crandell Funeral Home - Fremont Chapel, with Rev. David Dickinson of the Fremont Christian Church Disciples of Christ presiding, with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery in Holton. Friends may consider the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital for memorial contributions in memory of Ruth.
