Robert (Bob) Voss

(July 25, 1946 - October 7, 2008)

Robert (Bob) Voss, 62, of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, Tennessee and formerly of Wixom, Mich., died Oct. 7, 2008 of sarcoma cancer at his home.

Bob was a beloved educator whose life’s work in teaching and training, public school administration, and human resources impacted countless lives in Birmingham, Mich., and across the nation. Born July 25, 1946 in Fremont, to Beulah and Donald Voss, Bob married Gail Graham in 1968. He earned a B.S. and Ed.S. at Central Michigan University. He began his 26-year career in public education as a teacher and became an elementary school principal at the age of 27. In 1984, he transferred to Birmingham Public Schools where he served as the principal of Meadow Lakes Elementary School, then Assistant Superintendent where he selected nearly 100 outstanding teachers. He retired at the age of 56, and moved to Loudon, Tenn. He continued to train educators and administrators in his work as a Senior Associate of Ventures for Excellence, a company focused on selecting and developing the best employees in school systems across the nation. Bob was a devoted Christian with an abiding faith in a loving God. He served as a children’s leader through Bible Study Fellowship and a Sunday School teacher and elder at Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church in Farragut, Tenn. A lifelong runner and avid golfer, he enjoyed an active lifestyle. Bob’s generous spirit of wisdom and courageous testimony in the face of cancer became an inspiration to many through his Caring Bridge website. A loving husband, father, and grandfather of six, he leaves behind a legacy of an exem plary, joyful life in the service of others.

Bob is survived by his wife, Gail, of Loudon, Tennessee; his mother, Beulah Voss, of Fremont; his sisters, Barbara Mooney of Fremont and Donna Hanson of Jacksonville, Florida; his children, Corey and Irene Voss of Knoxville, Brenna and Brian Schaffer of Evanston, Wyoming, and Amanda and Seth Hendler-Voss of Asheville, North Carolina; and his grandsons, Ashton, Cullen, and Sawyer Voss, Kaleb and Finnian Schaffer, and Myles Hendler-Voss.

The family received friends at the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel. A funeral service to honor the life of Bob Voss took place on Thursday, Oct. 9 at Christ Covenant Church in Farragut, Tenn. with Rev. Jim Barnes officiating. Interment was in Lake View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church at 12915 Kingston Pike, Farragut, TN 37934. On Friday, Oct. 10, a memorial service took place at Faith Covenant Church in Farmington Hills, Mich. Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel, 11915 Kingston Pike is serving the Voss family.
