Larry Britton

(1950 - November 3, 2007)

Larry Britton, 57, of Belmont/Fremont, passed away late Saturday morning, Nov. 3, 2007, following a year-long struggle with leukemia (CML).

Larry graduated from Fremont High School in 1968 and was on the football, basketball, and baseball teams. He continued to play ball for many years in the Fremont area with his friends. Following his graduation, he served his country in the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam era. After returning from the military, Larry worked for Gerber Baby Food Corporation for 31 years. He enjoyed going to work every day because of his many friendships and his active work with the union. Larry was an outdoors person. During the summer he enjoyed boating at Hardy Dam and playing golf, and in the winter time he enjoyed snowmobiling with his family and friends. He lived his life to the fullest and was the love of his wife, Beth’s life.

Larry is survived by his wife, Beth Hawkins-Britton; children, Eric Britton of Fremont, Michael and Cara Britton of Fremont, and Patti Britton, David Hawkins, Darek Hawkins, and Drew Hawkins - all of Belmont; his mother, Mrs. Helen Britton of Fremont; and his brothers, Claire and Lynda Britton of Hesperia, and Carl and Pam Britton of Montague. He is also survived by Beth’s family, her father, Olney Hawkins of Belmont; sister, Susan and David Faber of Coopersville; brothers, Jeff and Marie Hawkins of Belmont, and Kyle Hawkins of Chicago; and very special nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, E. N. Britton.

The service for Larry was held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Fremont Wesleyan Church, 918 Garden Ave., Fremont, with Pastor Harry Bultema officiating, with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, prior to the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Hope Lodge, 11432 Mayfield Road, Cleveland, OH 44106 where Larry and Beth resided for his Leukemia treatment. A special thanks is given to the nurses on 5 South (Spectrum Health Butterworth) for their love and care. Arrangements by the Pederson Funeral Home in Rockford.
