Heidi Elaine Derks-Rehmann

(October 1, 1967 - October 22, 2008)

Heidi Elaine Derks-Rehmann, 41, of Bay City, and formerly of Fremont, passed away on Wednesday morning, Oct. 22, 2008 at Spectrum Health - Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids, of complications from an automobile accident in Vassar on Monday.

She was born on Oct. 1, 1967 in Fremont to William J. and JoAnn (Moon) Derks. Heidi graduated from Fremont High School in 1985, and she obtained her BA and MA Degrees in school administration from Central Michigan University. She was an 18 year veteran of public education as a teacher and a Principal at Hale, Central Montcalm, Alpena, and Vassar Public Schools. Heidi was also an avid writer and artist.

On July 10, 1999 she married Bill Rehmann and he survives her along with her step-children, Dan and Kevin Rehmann of Hale; her step-grandson, Brice Rieson; her parents, JoAnn and Stan Thornton, Jr. and Bill Derks - all of Fremont; her mother-in-law, Alberta Rehmann of Chesaning; her grandparents, Jean and Stan Thornton, Sr. of Fremont; her sisters and brothers, Becky, William, and Vicki Derks - all of Fremont, Jason Thornton of Fremont, Shane Thornton of Brighton, and Amy Hayes of Manchester; her brother-in-law, Steven Rehmann of Tawas; and many extended family members including aunts, uncles, cousins, and wonderful friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph and Florence Moon and Henry and Gertrude Derks.

A memorial service was held on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 25 at Church of the Living Christ in Fremont, with Pastors Nathan and Andrea DeWard officiating. Suggested memorials are the Fremont Area Community Foundation Endowment Funds for either the Newaygo County Council for the Arts or for the United Way of Newaygo County.
