Memorial Service for Chris

Dear Classmates,

I took on this newsletter project this spring in an effort to re-connect us after 15 years apart. I have enjoyed reading, compiling and sending happy news on to everyone. But it never occured to me that this newsletter could also be a vehicle to carry sorrow.

For those of you who are not living in the local area, by now (Tuesday night) the news of Chris' death has touched every corner of our community and has been broadcast in news reports across West Michigan. It is during this difficult time that we realize just how lucky we are to live in a close-knit community. Although we will miss Chris, I know his family and friends are being well supported and cared for now, and throughout the days, weeks and months ahead.

Libby has provided an update with funeral plans for us. A memorial service will be held this Saturday, November 3rd, 1 pm, at First Congregational Church in Fremont. I understand several classmates are making arrangements to travel home to attend the service and wish you all safe travels.

Here is the follow-up article that ran in the Sunday edition of the Nashville, Tennessean:

I understand the suspect has been caught and will stand trial.

Libby has also attached the link to the notice.

There you can see a recent photo of Chris, read his obituary and send a message to his family. If you would prefer to send a note of condolence or card of sympathy to his parents, here is their address:

Ted and Jeanne Caris
3906 Harmon Drive
Fremont, MI 49412

Our class has taken a tough hit this week. For this reason, I'd like to put out a special edition of the class newsletter. I encourage you to make a special effort to send your good news, brief memories or tributes to Chris, and other happy details by Friday, November 2nd. I'll compile your entries and send them on to the class next week.

Take good care,

Sara
