New sculpture honors the power and art of writing
“Writer’s Stone,” the newest addition to Fremont’s growing collection of public art pieces, was offcially unveiled on Monday morning, June 23 at the Fremont Post Offce.
Artist Cara O’Brien, a 1994 graduate of Fremont High School, said that the painted steel sculpture affxed to a rock base is intended as a monument to the power of the written word. Postmaster Lori Layne added that it honors the art of letter-writing and the post offce’s role in that tradition.
Holland Custom Metal Works fabricated the sculpture. The rock came from the Old Mill General Store in White Cloud.
Mayor Jim Rynberg said that the sculpture is expected to become part of a walking art tour that already boasts other sculptures and murals in downtown Fremont and is expected to continue to grow in coming months.
