
Local soldier visiting before returning to Iraq
Sgt. Richard L. Workman and his K-9 partner Lio will be home on leave Nov. 1, 2 and 3 before deploying to Iraq on Nov. 15.
Sgt. Workman is a 1999 Cum Laude graduate of Fremont High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduation. This will be his third tour of duty in Iraq.
Sgt. Workman is part of a Military Police unit and his training has included sniper and SWAT traning, traffic accident reconstruction and investigations, and, most recently, training as a K-9 handler. His deployments have included Korea, Kuwait and Iraq.
Workman’s K-9 partner Lio is a Dutch Shepherd and is a certified bomb dog. Lio and his partner are scheduled to be deployed to Iraq for 12 months.
Sgt. Workman’s father, Bob Workman of Fremont, said that any of his son’s friends who would like to talk to him while he is in town are invited to call the Workman home.
