More than 50 years after anchoring the front line for the Olivet College football team, Roy Schreck of Fremont was recently inducted into the college’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
Schreck, a retired Fremont Public Schools teacher, played at Olivet in the mid-1950’s, graduating in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree in science and history, plus a teaching certificate.
He was honored at a Sept. 29 induction ceremony.
Schreck said that he played tackle and guard on the offensive line and was the team’s noseguard on defense. His Hall of Fame induction award notes that he was known for playing while injured, and he is also remembered for pioneering a weight-lifting regiment for himself and teammates. He built some of the equipment himself.
Schreck did his practice teaching at Olivet High School and taught there for one year before going on to teach in Rochester. He started teaching in Fremont in 1962.
